Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 hot dogs
2 Tbsp shortening (i used butter instead and it turned out fine)
1/3 c chopped onion
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp dry mustard
2 Tbsp vinegar (i used apple cider)
3 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp pepper
2 Tbsp sugar
3/4 c ketchup

Steps:

  • 1. Split 6 hotdogs lengthwise. Place in greased 9x13" Pan.
  • 2. Melt 2 Tbsp. shortening, add onion, simmer till tender. Then add: paprika, dry mustard, vinegar, worcestershire, pepper, sugar and ketchup. Simmer for 2 minutes . Pour over hot dogs and cook at 400* for 20 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right hot dogs: Opt for high-quality hot dogs made with premium beef or a blend of beef and pork. Look for brands that use natural ingredients and avoid artificial preservatives.
  • Prepare the hot dogs properly: Before grilling, score the hot dogs lengthwise with a sharp knife. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from splitting open.
  • Use the right grill: A charcoal grill will give your hot dogs a smoky flavor, while a gas grill will provide more consistent heat. If you're using a charcoal grill, let the coals burn until they are white-hot and covered in a light layer of ash.
  • Grill the hot dogs over medium heat: Cook the hot dogs over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, turning them frequently to ensure even cooking. Avoid grilling them over high heat, as this will cause them to burn on the outside before they are cooked through.
  • Use a variety of toppings: The classic hot dog toppings are ketchup, mustard, and relish, but there are endless possibilities. Try experimenting with different toppings like sauerkraut, chili, cheese, bacon, or grilled onions.

Conclusion:

Barbecued hot dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By following these tips, you can grill the perfect hot dog every time. So fire up your grill, grab some hot dogs, and get ready to enjoy a classic American meal.
