Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 c basmati rice
2 c water
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp canola oil
2 Tbsp butter
1 bunch fresh asparagus, broken and cut into bite size pieces.
2 Tbsp lime or lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. In a microwaveable covered dish combine the rice, oil, salt, and water. Microwave on high for 10-12 minutes. Fluff up rice after cooking 6 minutes. Fluff up again at the end of the cooking time. Taste test rice, it should be "just under done". Not mushy.
  • 2. Toss in asparagus and butter. Cover and let the asparagus steam for 2-3 minutes.
  • 3. Squeeze on lime or lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, toss and serve.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use high-quality basmati rice. Basmati rice is a long-grain rice that is known for its delicate flavor and fluffy texture.
  • Be sure to rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking. This will help to remove any starch and impurities.
  • Use a large pot to cook the rice. This will help to ensure that the rice cooks evenly.
  • Bring the water to a boil before adding the rice. This will help to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Once the water is boiling, add the rice and stir gently. Then, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all of the water has been absorbed.
  • Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
  • To make the asparagus rice, simply add chopped asparagus to the cooked rice and stir to combine.
  • For a more flavorful rice dish, add some chopped herbs, such as cilantro, parsley, or mint, to the cooked rice.

Conclusion:

Basmati asparagus rice is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover rice, and it is also a healthy and flavorful side dish. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give basmati asparagus rice a try.
