BEER BREAD

Beer Bread image

Per Google.com, the #1 recipe for Beer Bread in the world! There are a few recipes for beer bread out there, but none as simple (and tasty!) as this one. You can even mix it in the baking pan for easy cleanup. This is sensational when served with soups or just as a snack, but don't expect it to be around very long when your family gets a taste of it! Be sure to use a sheet pan on the shelf below the pan to catch any excess butter that may drip during cooking.

Time 1h3m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups flour (sifted)
3 teaspoons baking powder (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1 teaspoon salt (omit if using Self-Rising Flour)
1/4 cup sugar
1 (12 ounce) can beer
1/2 cup melted butter (1/4 cup will do just fine)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Mix dry ingredients and beer.
  • Pour into a greased loaf pan.
  • Pour melted butter over mixture.
  • Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.
  • UPDATED NOTES: This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.
  • Sifting flour for bread recipes is a must-do. Most people just scoop the 1 cup measure in the flour canister and level it off. That compacts the flour and will turn your bread into a "hard biscuit" as some have described. That's because they aren't sifting their flour! If you do not have a sifter, use a spoon to spoon the flour into the 1 cup measure. Try it once the "correct" way and you will see an amazing difference in the end product.
  • I have had many email from you kind folks about using non-alcoholic beverages instead of beer. That is fine to do but I highly recommend adding a packet of Dry Active Yeast or 2 teaspoons of Bread (Machine) Yeast so that you get a proper rise.
  • The final result should be a thick, hearty and very tasteful bread, NOT A BRICK! ;).
  • Thank you all for the incredibly nice comments and those of you who left a bad review - learn to sift sift SIFT! You will be amazed at the results you get.

JALAPENO-CHEDDAR BEER BREAD

Jalapeno-Cheddar Beer Bread image

This no-fail, no-fuss recipe, uses just a few ingredients, requires no rising time and has tons of savory flavor.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     side-dish

Time 1h40m

Yield 1 loaf

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
2 3/4 cups self-rising flour, sifted (see Cook's Note)
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup shredded Cheddar
One 12-ounce can or bottle lager, pilsner or IPA-style beer, at room temperature
1 cup sliced pickled jalapenos

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Brush an 8-by-4-by-2 1/2-inch loaf pan with some of the melted butter.
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar and 1/2 cup Cheddar in a large bowl.
  • Pour the beer into a medium bowl. Add half of the remaining butter and whisk together (it will get foamy!).
  • Pour the beer-butter mixture into the flour mixture and fold until just combined (it's ok if there are lumps). The batter will be relatively thick and shaggy. Transfer to the prepared loaf pan and pat out into an even layer. Pour the remaining butter over the batter and top with the remaining 1/4 cup Cheddar and the jalapeno slices. Bake until golden brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center registers 190 degrees F, 1 hour to 1 hour 5 minutes.
  • Let cool in the pan on a rack for about 15 minutes. Invert the bread out of the pan and eat warm or at room temperature.

UNA'S CHEDDAR BEER BREAD

Una's Cheddar Beer Bread image

A tender beer bread with a rich cheesy taste reminiscent of cheese nips. Excellent plain, in sandwiches, or toasted.

Provided by ZZOAOZZ

Categories     Bread     Yeast Bread Recipes

Time 1h

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle premium lager
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons milk
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons yeast
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dried marjoram
½ teaspoon dried basil
8 ounces reduced-fat extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons margarine, melted

Steps:

  • Grease two 9x5-inch loaf pans.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm beer slightly. Stir in milk and 2 tablespoons margarine to melt. Pour contents into bread machine pan. Pour in flour. Make a well in the center of the flour, and sprinkle salt onto one side of the mound that forms. Into the well, pour the sugar and yeast. Sprinkle with pepper, onion, garlic, and herbs. Begin the dough cycle.
  • Meanwhile, slice the cheese into pea-size crumbles. Avoid using shredded cheese, as it may clump. Once the dough forms into a sticky ball, gradually add the cheese crumbles.
  • As the cycle continues and the cheese fully incorporates into the dough, the ball should still be somewhat soft and sticky. If it is too dry, add a bit of milk.
  • When the cycle has completed, punch down the dough, and divide it in half. Place each half into a greased loaf pan, and allow the dough to rise, about 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • When the dough has risen, bake for 1 hour, or until the loaves are golden brown and make a hollow sound when thumped. Immediately turn out onto a cooling rack, and brush with melted margarine. Cool completely before cutting.

CHEDDAR BEER BREAD ROLLS

Cheddar Beer Bread Rolls image

These cheesy rolls pack a lot of flavor considering their short ingredient list. Thanks to the beer, they're also especially light and fluffy, taking any meal to the next level. But they're also perfect all on their own, slathered with butter.

Provided by Erin Jeanne McDowell

Categories     snack, breads, side dish

Time 25m

Yield 12 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 cups/815 grams bread flour, plus more for work surface
1 tablespoon instant yeast
2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
4 tablespoons/55 grams unsalted butter (2 tablespoons softened, 2 tablespoons melted), plus more for the bowl and pan
1/4 cup/60 milliliters honey
2 cups/480 milliliters beer, such as pale ale
1 3/4 cup/200 grams shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, preferably white

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, combine bread flour, yeast, salt, 2 tablespoons softened butter, honey and beer. Mix on low speed for 4 minutes. The dough should come together around the dough hook. Increase speed to medium and continue to mix for 2 minutes more, occasionally stopping to scrape the dough from the hook. Add 1 cup/115 grams of the Cheddar cheese and mix until incorporated, 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until nearly double in size, about 1 hour.
  • Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch pan. Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 even pieces. Gently round each piece of dough into a ball, and place into the prepared pan. (The rolls may not touch now, but they will fill in the gaps when they rise and bake.)
  • Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for 35 to 45 minutes, until they look visibly puffy. Toward the end of rise time, heat the oven to 400 degrees. Brush the rolls with 2 tablespoons melted butter, and top each roll with 1 tablespoon of the remaining white Cheddar, being careful to keep the cheese away from the edges of the pan.
  • Bake the rolls until golden brown, and the cheese on top is melted and browned (the rolls should have an internal temperature of 190 degrees), 17 to 22 minutes. Let cool at least 10 minutes before serving.

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
6 ounces kielbasa, cut into 1/2-inch dice
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 carrots, finely diced
2 stalks celery, finely diced
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
Pinch cayenne pepper
4 small round boules (about 7 inches each)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups chicken stock, warmed
1 bottle pale ale, pilsner or lager
3 cups sharp yellow Cheddar, shredded
5 ounces Gruyere, shredded
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh chives

  • Puree the soup with an immersion blender until smooth. Add the Cheddar and Gruyere and stir until the cheese is melted. Season with salt and pepper. Ladle into the bread bowls and serve immediately, topped with the kielbasa croutons and chives. Use the bread toppers for dipping, if desired.

SPENT GRAIN BEER BREAD

Spent Grain Beer Bread image

I am a homebrewer and brew all grain beer. As a byproduct of mashing 10+ lbs. of grain to make wort for beer, you have 10+ lbs. of grain to use. I hate to dispose of anything, especially food, I wanted to find a good way to use this leftover grain. I use some of the grain for this bread recipe and put the rest into compost for my outdoor plants. Really there is no true combination of grain, I just use whatever I used to brew beer with. It all gets mixed together during the mash so it is never the same blend, but that keeps it interesting!

Provided by M3 Guy

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 1h35m

Yield 1-2 Loaves, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups of spent grain (wet)
1 1/2 cups warm water (~100 F)
1 (1 tablespoon) package dry bakers yeast
1/3 cup sugar (white or brown)
3 -5 cups flour
1 dash salt (optional)

Steps:

  • Proof yeast in mixture of water and sugar (make a starter). You should see krausen in less than an hour.
  • Put spent grain in large mixer bowl. Mix in starter, and start adding flour. Keep adding flour until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Place dough in a large bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise until doubled. Punch down dough, and either:.
  • A) Split into two loaves and place in greased bread pans.
  • B) Form into a round loaf and place on cookie sheet with a thin layer of corn meal under the loaf.
  • Allow loaf(ves) to double in size, bake in 375 F oven 30 to 40 minutes until browned and a long pin, such as a turkey pan, comes out clean after being inserted into the center of the loaf.

GUINNESS BEER BREAD

Guinness Beer Bread image

Great-tasting variety on traditional beer bread, this one only lasts a couple of days around my house.

Provided by Felix4067

Categories     Breads

Time 1h20m

Yield 1 loaf

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
12 ounces Guinness stout
2 eggs, slightly beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375F degrees.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  • Add Guinness and eggs; stir just until blended.
  • Pour into greased 9x5x3 loaf pan.
  • Bake at 375F for approximately 70 minutes.
  • Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Beer: For a flavorful and rich bread, use a beer with a strong taste, such as a stout or ale. Lighter beers, like lagers, will result in a milder flavor.
  • Let the Beer Go Flat: Before adding the beer to the batter, let it go flat by pouring it into a shallow dish and letting it sit for a few minutes. This will help to remove the carbonation and prevent the bread from becoming too dense.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter will result in a tough bread. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Bake the Bread in a Hot Oven: A hot oven will help to create a crispy crust and a light and fluffy interior.
  • Let the Bread Cool Before Slicing: Allow the bread to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This will help to prevent the bread from crumbling.

Conclusion:

Beer bread is a quick and easy bread to make, and it's a great way to use up leftover beer. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and flavorful bread that's perfect for any occasion. Whether you're serving it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, beer bread is sure to be a hit.
