Time 2h10m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 lb bacon
1 lb ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
black pepper, to taste
1 (16 ounce) can pork and beans
1 (16 ounce) can lima beans, drained
2 (16 ounce) cans kidney beans
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 medium onion, diced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • Fry bacon in skillet and drain.
  • Brown ground beef in skillet, season with salt and pepper and drain.
  • Combine bacon and hamburger with remaining ingredients in casserole dish.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to soften them and reduce the cooking time. You can also quick-soak the beans by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them stand for 1 hour.
  • Use a variety of beans: This recipe calls for navy beans, but you can also use other types of beans, such as pinto beans, black beans, or kidney beans.
  • Add flavorings: Feel free to add other flavorings to the beans, such as garlic, onion, celery, carrots, or bay leaves.
  • Don't overcook the beans: Overcooked beans will become mushy. The beans should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Serve the beans with your favorite sides: Baked beans are a great side dish for many different meals. You can serve them with grilled chicken, pork chops, or hamburgers.

Conclusion:

Baked beans are a classic American dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. This recipe for Bernie's White Baked Beans is a simple but delicious way to enjoy this classic dish.
