4 to 6 potatoes
4 teaspoons margarine
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 teaspoon mustard
6 ounces cheddar cheese, grated or processed cheese spread
1 teaspoon chicken bullion powder

Tips:

  • To achieve crispy edges and a golden brown top, use a combination of butter and grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the casserole before baking.
  • Use high-quality, starchy potatoes like russets or Yukon Golds for a creamier, more decadent dish.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes before cooking to remove excess starch and help them cook more evenly.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly and evenly to ensure they cook uniformly.
  • For a richer flavor, use a combination of grated cheeses, such as Gruyère, Cheddar, and Parmesan.
  • Season the casserole generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder for a well-rounded taste.
  • If you prefer a more liquidy sauce, add an extra 1/2 cup of milk or cream to the mixture before baking.
