Categories     main-dish

Time 1h5m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

8 large hot dogs, preferably 6 to 1s (6 hot dogs to a pound)
8 thin slices bacon, such as Oscar Mayer
4 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
8 fresh bolillo rolls, each sliced into a "pocket" to catch all the fillings (see Cook's Note)
1 cup refried beans, warmed
2 avocados, diced
2 firm, ripe Roma tomatoes, diced
1 small red onion, diced
1 cup pickled jalapenos, drained
Zesty Mayo, recipe follows
Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
Hot sauce, for serving
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon hot sauce
Zest and juice of 1 lime
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Wrap each dog evenly in 1 slice of bacon. Secure with a toothpick at both ends and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up the bacon and help it adhere.
  • Heat a grill or grill pan for medium heat. Grill each side of the hot dogs until the bacon is extra crispy but not burnt. It is import to control the heat to insure the hot dogs get properly warmed through and the bacon does not burn or undercook. Set aside.
  • Butter the outsides of the "pocketed" rolls and gently griddle them until just golden brown.
  • Layer a schmear of warm refried beans on the bottom of each roll followed by a bacon-wrapped dog. Top with the avocados, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos and a squiggly drizzle of Zesty Mayo. Garnish with some cilantro leaves and serve with your favorite hot sauce.
  • Combine the cilantro, mayonnaise, hot sauce, lime zest and juice and some salt and pepper in a bowl and whisk until well blended.

HEAVENLY HOT DOG SAUCE

Heavenly Hot Dog Sauce image

This is my family's favorite hotdog sauce. It originates from West Virginia. We like it with a bite, but you can adjust it to your taste. We top the hotdogs with ketchup, mustard, the hotdog sauce, and finally some chopped onions...YUM! This recipe makes enough for freezing and using later.

SPANISH DOG SAUCE RECIPE - (4.3/5)

Spanish Dog Sauce Recipe - (4.3/5) image

Provided by carolync

Number Of Ingredients 9

Spanish Dog Sauce
Ingredients
2 pounds Ground Beef
3/4 cups Water
2 cups Ketchup
4-1/2 teaspoons Chili Powder (Mexene Recommended)
2 Tablespoons White Vinegar
1 teaspoon Salt
1/4 cups Very Finely Diced White Onion (can Use Rehydrated)

Steps:

  • This is not a difficult recipe but needs to be stirred and watched carefully. It will be ruined if the hamburger browns. DO NOT brown the hamburger. Mix burger and water in a medium-large sized heavy bottom saucepan. (I know this looks and sounds very gross, but trust me on this.) Add the rest of the ingredients until well mixed. This should be similar to a medium thick tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat a little, stirring every 15-20 minutes. This is important to keep the mixture from browning, burning or scorching. If the mixture seems too thick, then add a little more water. (Manwich consistency is too thick. The object is to be able to spoon this on easily, but have the sauce stay on the hot dog and bun when eaten.) Simmer for 1 1/2-2 hours, continuing to watch VERY carefully, stirring every 10-15 minutes

Tips:

  • Use a variety of condiments to give your sauce a unique flavor. Mustard, ketchup, relish, and onions are all classic choices, but you can also experiment with other options like sauerkraut, bacon bits, or even chopped pickles.
  • Don't be afraid to get creative with your sauce. There are no rules when it comes to making Spanish sauce, so feel free to add whatever ingredients you like. Just be sure to taste-test your sauce as you go to make sure it's balanced and flavorful.
  • Serve your Spanish sauce immediately. This sauce is best when it's fresh, so don't let it sit around for too long before serving.

Conclusion:

Spanish sauce is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used to add flavor to a variety of dishes. Whether you're using it on hot dogs, hamburgers, or even grilled chicken, Spanish sauce is sure to please everyone at your table. So next time you're looking for a way to add some excitement to your meal, give Spanish sauce a try.
