DEEP PURPLE BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE WITH BLACK QUINOA

Deep Purple Blueberry Smoothie With Black Quinoa image

My idea for this week's Recipes for Health was to match grains and fruit by color and make nourishing smoothies. For this one I could have also used any of the black or purple rices on the market, such as Alter Eco's purple jasmine rice, Lotus Food's Forbidden Rice or Lundberg Black Japonica. I happened to have a full bag of black quinoa in the pantry, so that's what I went for and it worked beautifully. You can also use fresh blueberries for this, but when they are not in season, frozen will do fine and will eliminate the need for ice cubes.

HEALTHY BLUEBERRY BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

Healthy Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie image

A quick recipe I thought up while trying to decide what to eat for breakfast. Great if you are trying to figure out what to do with those blueberries in the fridge or freezer! Also great on-the-go! Delicious and includes many foods that are a great way to start your day! Many of the ingredients, except for the blueberries and yogurt, are optional and vary depending on your own taste. I love cinnamon and a thick, super-cold smoothie. This recipe is super versatile, and you can change it depending on dietary needs or personal preference. Have fun with it!

Tips:

  • Use frozen fruit: Frozen fruit will help to make your smoothie thick and creamy, and it will also help to keep it cold. If you don't have frozen fruit, you can use fresh fruit, but you may need to add some ice to your smoothie to help it thicken up.
  • Add some yogurt or milk: Yogurt or milk will help to make your smoothie creamy and smooth. You can use any type of yogurt or milk that you like, but Greek yogurt or almond milk are good options if you're looking for a healthier smoothie.
  • Add some greens: Adding some greens to your smoothie is a great way to get a boost of nutrients. Spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are all good options. You can also add some fruits or vegetables to your smoothie for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Sweeten your smoothie naturally: If you want to sweeten your smoothie, try using natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar. You can also add some fruit to your smoothie for a natural sweetness.
  • Garnish your smoothie: Once your smoothie is blended, you can garnish it with fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds. This will add some extra flavor and nutrition to your smoothie.

Conclusion:

Black and blueberry smoothies are a delicious and healthy way to start your day. They are packed with nutrients and antioxidants, and they can help to improve your overall health. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to get your daily dose of fruits and vegetables, a black and blueberry smoothie is a great option.
