AVOCADO DRESSING FOR BLT SALAD

Avocado Dressing for BLT Salad image

Use this versatile, naturally creamy dressing in our Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Salad, or try drizzling it over grilled chicken or fish.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Quick & Easy Recipes

Yield Makes 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 ripe avocado
1/4 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
1 small clove garlic, peeled
Juice of 2 limes
3 tablespoons red-wine vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Slice avocado lengthwise. Remove and discard pit and peel, and place flesh in the bowl of a food processor. Add basil, garlic, lime juice, and vinegar; process until combined. Slowly add olive oil through the machine's feed tube, and process until the dressing is smooth. It should have a thick but pourable consistency; give an extra squeeze or two on the limes to adjust consistency. Season with salt and pepper, and use immediately.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. The fresher the ingredients, the better your dressing will taste. Look for ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and flavorful bacon.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment. There are many different variations of BLT salad dressing, so feel free to experiment until you find one that you love. You can add different herbs, spices, or even fruits to your dressing to create a unique flavor.
  • Make sure your dressing is well-balanced. A good BLT salad dressing should have a balance of sweet, sour, salty, and fatty flavors. If your dressing is too sweet, add some vinegar or lemon juice. If it's too sour, add some sugar or honey. If it's too salty, add some water or milk. And if it's too fatty, add some vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Let your dressing sit for a while before using it. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop. If you're short on time, you can still use your dressing right away, but it won't be as flavorful.
  • Store your dressing in a jar or container with a tight-fitting lid. This will help to keep it fresh for up to a week.

Conclusion:

BLT salad dressing is a versatile and delicious dressing that can be used on a variety of salads. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a new salad dressing, give BLT dressing a try. You won't be disappointed!
