BLUE MOON CRESCENT COOKIES
I love my grandma's vanilla crescent cookies, but wanted to add my own twist. These have a touch of lemon and cinnamon, plus flecks of dried blueberries.-Crystal Schlueter, Northglenn, Colorado

CRESCENT COOKIES
The tradition of making homemade treats for gifts is still alive and well in the South. In the early to mid-1990s, I worked on videos and photo shoots in Nashville with a girl named Maria Smoot. She is responsible for some of the most beautiful hair-styles in country music. I found a tin of these cookies in my mailbox one Christmas with a sweet note from Maria. What was even sweeter was that she included the recipe.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter, 1/4 cup of the sugar, the salt, and the vanilla until light and fluffy. Beat in the flour, and then stir in the pecans by hand.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball slightly and form into a half-moon crescent. Arrange the shaped cookies 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the edges are slightly browned but the tops are still pale. Transfer the cookies to a rack to cool.
- Put the remaining 3/4 cup sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll the cooled cookies in the sugar, coating liberally. Store in an airtight container.
- You may know these as Wedding Cookies or Melting Moments.
Tips for Making Perfect Blue Moon Crescent Cookies:
- **Use cold butter:** Cold butter creates a flakier cookie. If you don't have time to chill your butter, you can freeze it for 15 minutes before using. - **Don't overmix the dough:** Overmixing the dough will make the cookies tough. Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined. - **Chill the dough before baking:** Chilling the dough helps the cookies hold their shape and prevents them from spreading too much. - **Bake the cookies at the right temperature:** The cookies should be baked at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown. - **Let the cookies cool before serving:** The cookies will be easier to handle and less likely to break if you let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Conclusion:
Blue Moon Crescent Cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. Be sure to follow these tips to make sure your cookies turn out perfect every time. These cookies are also great for the holidays. They can be decorated with sprinkles, icing or other toppings to make them festive.
