Yield 750 ml

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup blueberries
3 cups vodka
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon glycerin (optional)

Steps:

  • In a quart jar, blueberries, 1 cup sugar, and vodka. (I use frozen blueberries as the freezing process breaks down the cell walls, allowing you to get more juice).
  • Seal jar tightly, and place in a dry, dark place for about 2 weeks.
  • After two weeks, strain the liquid using a double layer of cheese cloth. Gently squeeze the blueberries, getting as much juice from them as possible.
  • In a fresh quart jar, add the second cup of sugar, water to top and the strained liquid. Seal and store again in a dark place until sugar is dissolved.
  • Once the sugar has all dissolved, bottle the resulting liqueur in a fresh bottle and let age for roughly 3 months.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe and fresh blueberries: The quality of your blueberries will greatly impact the flavor of your liqueur. Make sure to select plump, juicy berries that are free of blemishes.
  • Use a high-proof alcohol: Vodka is a popular choice for blueberry liqueur, but you can also use other high-proof spirits such as gin or rum. The higher the alcohol content, the longer your liqueur will last.
  • Add sugar or honey to taste: The amount of sugar or honey you add will depend on your personal preference. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Let the liqueur steep for at least 2 weeks: The longer you let the liqueur steep, the more flavorful it will be. You can store the liqueur in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
  • Serve chilled: Blueberry liqueur is best served chilled. You can enjoy it on its own, over ice, or in cocktails.

Conclusion:

Blueberry liqueur is a delicious and versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed in many ways. It's easy to make at home and makes a great gift for friends and family. With its sweet and fruity flavor, blueberry liqueur is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
