Time 45m

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup bourbon whiskey
1/4 cup dried cherries
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/ 4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups raw pecan halves
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon zest from 1 small orange

Steps:

  • Combine the bourbon and the dried cherries in a small bowl and set aside to soak for 30 minutes. In another small bowl, combine the brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper and stir until well-combined. Set aside.
  • Place the pecans in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until they just start to brown and smell toasted, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the butter to the pan and stir until the butter is completely melted and the pecans are coated.
  • Add the sugar and spice mixture to the pan and stir to combine. Turn off the heat and immediately pour in the cherries and bourbon. Stir for 1-2 minutes more, off heat, until everything is well incorporated.
  • Return the pan to medium heat and continue to stir everything in the pan until the liquid thickens and a glaze forms on the pecans, 1 to 2 minutes longer. Transfer the pecans to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet.
  • Using a spatula or wooden spoon, separate the pecans and spread them into an even layer on the parchment paper. Allow the pecans to cool completely. Once the pecans have cooled, zest the orange over the pecans. Transfer the pecans to a large bowl and serve

BOURBON: OLD-FASHIONED

Bourbon: Old-Fashioned image

This simply made and elegant cocktail focuses on the flavor of the bourbon, so keep that in mind when shopping for booze because bad-tasting liquor makes a lousy drink. Still, that doesn't mean that you have to break the bank.

Time 2m

Number Of Ingredients 5

Sugar cube
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Ice
1/4 cup whiskey
Garnish: lemon twist

Steps:

  • Muddle the sugar cube the Angostura bitters. Add ice and pour in the whiskey. Garnish: lemon twist.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will directly impact the taste of your Old Fashioned. Use a good quality bourbon, bitters, and simple syrup. Fresh fruit and a large ice cube will also make a difference.
  • Chill your glass: Chilling your glass before making your Old Fashioned will help to keep your drink cold and refreshing. You can chill your glass by placing it in the freezer for a few minutes or by filling it with ice and water and letting it sit for a few minutes.
  • Stir, don't shake: When making an Old Fashioned, it's important to stir the ingredients together, not shake them. Shaking the drink will introduce too much air and dilute the flavor.
  • Garnish with a twist of citrus: A twist of citrus, such as orange or lemon, is the traditional garnish for an Old Fashioned. The citrus adds a bright, refreshing flavor to the drink.
  • Experiment with different flavors: There are many ways to customize your Old Fashioned to your taste. You can try using different types of bourbon, bitters, and simple syrup. You can also add fruit, herbs, or spices to create unique flavor combinations.

Conclusion:

The Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail that is enjoyed by people all over the world. It is a simple drink to make, but it can be customized to your taste in many different ways. With a little experimentation, you can create the perfect Old Fashioned for any occasion.
