Rum, Bourbon or Brandy Balls image

You ever get up very early (2 am) in the morning and don't want to read, watch TV, but want to do something creative. That was my morning today. Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 c dried and finely crumbed in processor homemade pound cake
2 1/2 to 3 c powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 to 1/3 c dark rum, bourbon or brandy
4 Tbsp cocoa, unsweetened
2 Tbsp butter, softened
2 Tbsp very finely chopped orange peel (optional)
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon extract
2 nice size pinches of nutmeg
sifted powdered sugar to coat
3 Tbsp lyles golden sryup

Steps:

  • 1. Place Cocoa, powder sugar, pound cake crumbs, butter, cinnamon extract, and spices in processor. Give them a good spin a couple of times so they are evenly distributed. Add the alcohol of your choice. Process till it forms a ball. Wrap and place in the refrigerator for a few minutes. I let the dogs out at this time and made a cup of tea.
  • 2. Cover a cookie sheet with waxpaper or parchment paper. Form the balls, just about walnut size. I used a small cookie scoop. Roll balls between your hands. Place on cookie tin between layers of waxpaper When finished place in refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your brandy balls will taste. Use real butter, pure vanilla extract, and high-quality brandy.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make your brandy balls tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then stop.
  • Chill the dough before shaping it. Chilling the dough will make it easier to handle and will help the brandy balls hold their shape better.
  • Shape the balls evenly. The more evenly shaped your brandy balls are, the more uniform they will bake.
  • Bake the brandy balls at the right temperature. The ideal temperature for baking brandy balls is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If the oven is too hot, the brandy balls will brown too quickly and the inside will be raw. If the oven is too cool, the brandy balls will not cook through.
  • Let the brandy balls cool completely before coating them in powdered sugar. If you coat the brandy balls while they are still warm, the powdered sugar will melt and make a sticky mess.

Conclusion:

Brandy balls are a delicious and festive holiday treat. They are easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a little care and attention, you can make perfect brandy balls that your friends and family will love.
