Tips:

  • Select the right wheat germ. Choose a wheat germ that's fresh and free of rancidity. To maintain its freshness, store wheat germ in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • Activate the yeast properly. Before adding the yeast to the bread machine, make sure it's active. To do this, dissolve the yeast in warm water (105-115°F) with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
  • Use buttermilk that's at room temperature. This will help the bread rise properly. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Don't overfill the bread machine. The dough should fill no more than 2/3 of the pan. If you overfill the pan, the bread won't have enough room to rise and will come out dense and heavy.
  • Choose the right bread machine setting. Most bread machines have a setting for whole wheat bread. If yours doesn't, select the setting for white bread and add 10 minutes to the baking time.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing. This will help prevent the bread from tearing.

Conclusion:

Wheat germ buttermilk bread is a delicious and nutritious bread that's perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's easy to make in a bread machine, and it's a great way to use up leftover buttermilk. With its nutty flavor and tender texture, this bread is sure to become a family favorite.
