Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pound broccoli florets
3 tablespoons finely grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Fill a pot with water and bring to a boil. Fill a large bowl or pot with half ice and half water. When the water comes to a boil, add the broccoli florets using a strainer with a handle if possible. Allow the broccoli to cook for 1 to 2 minutes until just tender. Immediately remove from the boiling water, using the strainer or draining, and transfer to bowl of ice to stop the cooking process. Immerse the broccoli completely in the ice water for a minute or two. Remove and place in a dish that has been lined with paper towels. This part can be done up to two days in advance.
  • In a cup or small bowl, mix together the Parmesan cheese and brown sugar; set aside.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Throw in the broccoli and season with red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Stir to coat the broccoli, then cook and stir for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and dust with the Parmesan cheese mixture.

BRILLIANT SAUTéED BROCCOLI RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound broccoli florets (If you're using pre-cut broccoli, be sure to cut any larger florets into smaller pieces for even cooking.)
2 T olive oil
1/4 t. red pepper flakes
1/2 t. kosher salt
1/8 t. freshly ground black pepper
1/3 cup finely grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Fill a large bowl with ice and cold water. Put broccoli in boiling water (with a handled strainer, if you have one) and cook until bright green, 1-2 minutes. Quickly drain and transfer to ice water immersing broccoli completely for 1-2 minutes to stop cooking. Drain broccoli well and spread out on paper towels to absorb excess moisture. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add pepper flakes and cook 1 minute. Add broccoli, salt and black pepper, and cook, stirring, until broccoli is heated through, about 3 minutes. Toss with cheese and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right broccoli: Look for broccoli with tightly closed florets and a deep green color. Avoid broccoli with yellowing or wilted florets.
  • Cut the broccoli into even-sized florets: This will help them cook evenly. If the florets are too large, they may not cook through properly.
  • Blanch the broccoli before sautéing: Blanching helps to preserve the broccoli's bright green color and crisp texture. To blanch the broccoli, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender. Drain the broccoli and immediately transfer it to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat: This will help to prevent the broccoli from sticking to the pan.
  • Add the broccoli to the pan and cook, stirring frequently: The broccoli should be cooked through and slightly browned in spots, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season the broccoli to taste: Add salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of olive oil.
  • Serve the broccoli immediately: Sautéed broccoli is best when served fresh and hot.

Conclusion:

Sautéed broccoli is a quick, easy, and healthy side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. By following these tips, you can make perfect sautéed broccoli every time. So next time you're looking for a healthy and delicious side dish, give sautéed broccoli a try!
