GAILAN (CHINESE BROCCOLI) WITH TOFU

Gailan (Chinese Broccoli) with Tofu image

Gailan is a great leafy green vegetable that makes for a great stir-fry. Made this for dinner and couldn't wait to have the leftovers the next day for lunch. Serve with rice or tossed with your favorite noodle. I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but like the value and ease of preparation of tofu in place of chicken.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of tofu: For this recipe, it's best to use extra-firm tofu. This type of tofu holds its shape well and will absorb the flavors of the sauce better.
  • Press the tofu before cooking: Pressing the tofu helps to remove excess moisture, which will give it a better texture. To press the tofu, wrap it in a few layers of paper towels and place it on a plate. Place another plate on top of the tofu and weigh it down with something heavy, such as a can of beans or a heavy skillet. Let the tofu press for at least 30 minutes.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This recipe is a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Feel free to add any vegetables that you like, such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, or zucchini.
  • Make the sauce ahead of time: The sauce for this recipe can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This makes it a great option for a quick and easy weeknight meal.
