Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup chopped hazelnuts (recommended: Diamond brand) available on baking aisle
3 cups chicken stock
2 tablespoons butter or extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups brown rice
2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley

Steps:

  • Toast nuts in a small pan over low heat then remove from heat and reserve.
  • Bring 3 cups stock and 2 tablespoons butter or extra-virgin olive oil to a boil. Add rice, stir, return to boil, cover and reduce heat. Simmer rice 17 to 18 minutes, until tender and liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat. Add nuts and parsley as you fluff rice with fork. Transfer to serving dish.

Tips:

  • To make the perfect brown rice, use a 2:1 ratio of water to rice. This will ensure that the rice is cooked evenly and not mushy.
  • Rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking. This will remove any excess starch and help the rice cook more evenly.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot to cook the rice. This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the rice from burning.
  • Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender. Do not stir the rice while it is cooking, as this will release the starch and make the rice gummy.
  • Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  • To make the orange-scented rice, simply add a tablespoon of grated orange zest and a teaspoon of orange juice to the cooked rice. Stir to combine.
  • Serve the rice immediately as a side dish, or use it in your favorite recipes.

Conclusion:

Brown rice with orange is a delicious and healthy side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. It is a good source of fiber, protein, and vitamins, and it has a nutty flavor that pairs well with many different dishes. Whether you are looking for a simple side dish or a more complex recipe, brown rice with orange is a great option.
