2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dried herb leaves, such as rosemary, basil or thyme, or Italian seasoning

1/3 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted

  • Heat oven to 400°F. In medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, herbs, salt and baking soda. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until mixture looks like fine crumbs.
