1 cup butter, melted
2 cups packed light brown sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons water
½ cup butter, softened
3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease an 11x7x2-inch pan.
  • Melt 1 cup butter in a large saucepan. Add 2 cups light brown sugar and beat well to mix. Cool the mixture slightly, then beat in eggs and vanilla.

1/4 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons milk
1 large egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts, if desired
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350³F.
  • Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8x8x2 inches, with shortening.
  • Melt butter in 1 1/2 quart saucepan over low heat; remove from heat.
