Yield Makes 1

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 lime, juiced, rind reserved plus slice, for garnish
2 teaspoons superfine sugar
1/4 cup cachaca
1/4 cup passion-fruit juice

Steps:

  • Place lime rind in a heavy 12-ounce rocks glass; sprinkle with sugar. Add lime juice, cachaca, and passion-fruit juice; let stand 5 minutes. Fill glass with ice and stir until well combined. Garnish with lime wheel; serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Use fresh limes: Fresh limes are essential for making a great caipirinha. Limes that are too old or have been sitting around for too long will not have the same flavor or aroma.
  • Muddle the limes gently: When muddling the limes, be sure to do so gently. Over-muddling can release the bitter oils from the lime peel, which can ruin the flavor of the drink.
  • Use a high-quality cachaça: Cachaça is the key ingredient in a caipirinha, so it is important to use a high-quality product. Look for a cachaça that is made from 100% sugarcane juice and has been aged for at least two years.
  • Add sugar or honey to taste: The amount of sugar or honey you add to your caipirinha is a matter of personal preference. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Serve the caipirinha immediately: Caipirinhas are best served immediately after they are made. The ice will melt and dilute the drink if you let it sit for too long.

Conclusion:

The caipirinha is a refreshing and delicious cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. Whether you prefer your caipirinha original or with fruit, be sure to follow these tips to make the best caipirinha possible.
