AMAZING GLAZED HAM

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h15m

Yield 14 to 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

One 7- to 9-pound fully cooked spiral-cut ham
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup grainy brown mustard
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
3 medium oranges, zested and juiced
2 cloves garlic, grated
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Let the ham sit at room temperature for 1 hour before baking. This will allow it to cook evenly.
  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Make the glaze: In a medium pot over medium-high heat, combine the brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, cinnamon, paprika, chili powder, orange zest and juice, garlic and some salt and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Place a rack in a roasting pan. Put the ham on the rack large open-face down (so the spiral cuts are stacked on top of one another). Brush half of the glaze over the surface of the ham, getting it between the slices as much as you can.
  • Pour about an inch of water in the base of the roasting pan; the water should not touch the ham. Tent the pan loosely with aluminum foil and bake for about 10 minutes per pound (1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes).
  • Take the ham out of the oven and remove the foil. Raise the oven temperature to 375 degrees F. Brush half of the remaining glaze on the ham. When the oven is up to temperature, return the ham, uncovered, and bake for 15 minutes. Brush the remaining glaze over the ham and cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Carefully transfer the ham to a platter. Serve right away, or cover with foil and take it to your gathering!

BROWN SUGAR-ORANGE GLAZED HAM

Brown Sugar-Orange Glazed Ham image

Ham is such a great option for holiday meals. It feeds a ton of people and is so easy to make. Plus, you'll likely have leftovers that are perfect for adding to quiche, ham biscuits, and so much more. And don't forget to save that ham bone for soup!

Provided by Kardea Brown

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h55m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

One 8- to 10-pound bone-in fully cooked ham
1/4 cup whole cloves
1 cup honey
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Place the ham in a roasting pan, fat side up. Score the ham in diamond shapes with a sharp knife. Insert the cloves in the center of each diamond. Bake until a meat thermometer registers 140 degrees F when inserted in the thickest portion (avoiding bone), 18 to 20 minutes per pound.
  • Meanwhile, make the glaze. Combine the honey, brown sugar, orange juice and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
  • Remove the ham from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees F.
  • Remove about 2 tablespoons pan drippings from the roasting pan and add to the glaze. Whisk to combine. Pour the glaze over the ham. Return the ham to the oven and continue baking, basting with the pan juices frequently, until the ham is browned, about 20 more minutes. Slice the ham and serve with the pan juices, if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For this recipe, a bone-in ham is best. It will give the glaze more flavor and keep the ham moist during cooking.
  • Score the ham: Scoring the ham will help the glaze penetrate the meat and create a delicious crust.
  • Make the glaze in advance: The glaze can be made up to 2 days ahead of time. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Baste the ham frequently: Basting the ham with the glaze every 15-20 minutes will help keep it moist and flavorful.
  • Let the ham rest before carving: After the ham is cooked, let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Cajun glazed ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any special occasion. The combination of sweet and savory flavors is sure to please everyone at the table. With a little planning and preparation, you can make this dish in no time.
