Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 10m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 11

Ice cubes
3 ounces tequila
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur
1 tablespoon Lime-salt-sugar, recipe follows
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Zest of one lime
2 tablespoons kosher salt
2 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Place Lime-salt-sugar on a plate. Press the rim of a chilled rocks or wine glass into the mixture to rim the edge. Strain margarita into the glass.
  • Put the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. (Alternatively, heat in the microwave.) Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
  • Blend together lime, salt and sugar in a small blender or mini food chopper.

THE PERFECT MARGARITA

The Perfect Margarita image

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

BASIC MARGARITA

Basic Margarita image

This is a basic margarita recipe. You can add your favorite fresh fruits to flavor it. Fresh strawberry or mango are good choices. For a little something different, try granulated sugar rims on the glasses instead of margarita salt.

CAJUN MARGARITA

Cajun Margarita image

Ok, I know Margarita's are not a true Cajun specialty. But being a fan of Margaritas, this just sounds like something too interesting to pass up! From tideandthyme.com, supposedly from the HBO series True Blood set in Louisiana. If using the chile-infused tequila, note the time requirements for steeping and plan ahead. The sweet & sour of the margarita temper the spiciness.

THE ULTIMATE LIME MARGARITA

The Ultimate Lime Margarita image

You can't have a summer gathering without the great taste of Margarita's and chips with salsa. Make these ahead of time and they will be ready to serve when the party starts!

Categories     Beverages

Time 5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup tequila
3/4 cup orange liqueur, such as triple sec
1 cup fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sugar
ice cube

Steps:

  • Combine first 4 ingredients in a 4-cup measuring cup.
  • FOR BLENDED MARGARITAS: Fill blender halfway with ice cubes.
  • Add half of margarita mixture.
  • Blend until mixture is thick and icy.
  • Divide between two glasses.
  • Repeat with more ice cubes and remaining margarita mixture.
  • FOR MARGARITAS ON THE ROCKS: Fill four glasses with ice cubes.
  • Divide margarita mixture among glasses and serve.
  • DO-AHEAD TIP: Margarita mixture can be made up to 8 hours ahead and prior to being blended with ice.
  • Cover and refrigerate.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality tequila. A good tequila will make all the difference in your margarita. Look for a tequila that is 100% agave and has been aged for at least two months.
  • Use fresh lime juice. Fresh lime juice is essential for a great margarita. Bottled lime juice will not do the trick.
  • Use Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Cointreau and Grand Marnier are both orange liqueurs that can be used in margaritas. Cointreau is a bit sweeter than Grand Marnier, so choose the one you prefer.
  • Don't over-shake the margarita. Shaking the margarita too much will make it watery. Shake it just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Serve the margarita on the rocks or frozen. Margaritas can be served on the rocks or frozen. If you are serving it frozen, blend it with ice until it is slushy.

Conclusion:

The Cajun Margarita is a delicious and refreshing cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like it on the rocks or frozen, with or without salt, the Cajun Margarita is a surefire hit.
