Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 granny smith apples - med
1 pkg yellow cake mix
1/2 c quick oats
3 Tbsp dark brown sugar
1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 c butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • 2. Peel, core and slice the apples. Spread the apple evenly on the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • 3. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, oats, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Pour the melted butter over the top of the dry ingredients. Mix with a fork until it looks crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
  • 4. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 - 40 minutes. Topping should be a nice golden brown and the apples should be tender.
  • 5. Serve Warm or Cooled.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: For the best flavor and texture, choose apples that are firm and tart, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them to cook evenly and quickly.
  • Use a variety of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic apple crisp spices, but you can also experiment with other spices, such as cardamom, allspice, or cloves.
  • Don't overmix the topping: The topping should be crumbly, not doughy. If you overmix it, it will be tough.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream: This is the perfect way to enjoy this classic dessert.

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and classic flavor, it is a favorite of people of all ages. Whether you are looking for a quick and easy dessert for a weeknight meal or a special treat for a holiday gathering, apple crisp is sure to please.
