MOM'S CAMPFIRE STEW

Mom's campfire stew image

My mom was a girl Scout leader, for many years. She loved helping the girls get their badges, but she hated cooking. Somehow she started making this, and everyone was hooked. One night, my aunt and uncle stopped over with their 6 kids, at dinner time. Mom quickly made campfire stew, and served it over mashed potatoes! It's been a...

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 lb ground beef
3 can(s) vegetarian vegetable soup
2 can(s) tomato soup

Steps:

  • 1. Fry and drain ground beef.
  • 2. Add soups to ground beef, and heat until warm to liking.
  • 3. Serve as is, or as my family likes it, over mashed potatoes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pot: Use a large pot or Dutch oven that can hold all of your ingredients comfortably. A pot with a lid is ideal for keeping the heat and moisture in.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the meat before adding it to the stew will help to develop its flavor. You can do this in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you add to your stew, the more flavorful it will be. Some good options include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes.
  • Use a good quality broth: The broth is the base of your stew, so it's important to use a good one. You can use chicken broth, beef broth, or vegetable broth, depending on the type of stew you're making.
  • Season to taste: Don't be afraid to season your stew to taste. Add salt, pepper, and other spices until it reaches the desired flavor.
  • Let the stew simmer: Simmering the stew for a long period of time will help to develop the flavors and tenderize the meat. Aim to simmer the stew for at least 1 hour, or longer if you have the time.

Conclusion:

Campfire stew is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a camping trip or a backyard cookout. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a hearty and flavorful stew that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a simple and delicious meal, give campfire stew a try!
