1/2 c chopped pecans
1/4 c granulated sugar
1 Tbsp butter
1/4 c irish cream liqueur, orange liqueur, praline liqueur, or milk
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp salt

  • 3. Immediately remove from heat; spread nut mixture onto a second greased baking sheet; separate into clusters. Cool completely.
  • 4. Lightly grease a 2-qt. square or rectangular baking dish. Scoop sweet potato pulp into a large mixing bowl; discard peel. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Stir in liqueur, the 2 Tbsp. butter, the brown sugar, spice and salt. Beat until fluffy. Spread in prepared baking dish.
  • 5. Chop nut mixture into small pieces; sprinkle on sweet potatoes. Bake, uncovered, about 30 minutes or until heated through.

Here are some tips for making the best Candied Mashed Sweet Potatoes:

Tips:

  • Choose the right sweet potatoes. Look for firm, unblemished sweet potatoes that are about the same size. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Peel and cube the sweet potatoes. Cut them into 1-inch cubes. This will help them cook quickly and evenly.
  • Boil the sweet potatoes. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the sweet potatoes. Boil for 10-12 minutes, or until they are tender. Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.
  • Add the butter, brown sugar, and spices. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar and spices are evenly distributed.
  • Mash the sweet potatoes. Use a potato masher or an electric hand mixer to mash the sweet potatoes until they are smooth and creamy. Be careful not to over-mash them, or they will become gluey.
  • Serve immediately. Candied mashed sweet potatoes are best served immediately, while they are still warm and fluffy.
