ATHOLL BROSE

Atholl Brose image

Atholl Brose has been famous since 1475 when the Duke of Atholl captured his enemy the Earl of Ross by filling a well, from which the Earl liked to drink, with this magical potion. Ross (not surprisingly) drank deeply and was captured. As to what became of the rest of the well contents... because this took place in Scotland it seems very unlikely that it was wasted!

Tips:

  • Use good quality ingredients. Fresh, organic ingredients will result in a better tasting dish.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavors. There are many variations of Athol Brose, so feel free to add your own personal touch.
  • Make sure to toast the oatmeal before using it. This will give it a nutty flavor and help to thicken the porridge.
  • If you don't have any cream on hand, you can use milk instead. However, cream will give the porridge a richer flavor.
  • Serve Athol Brose warm, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Conclusion:

Athol Brose is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's a great way to use up leftover oatmeal, and it's also a healthy and filling meal. Whether you're looking for a traditional Scottish dish or a new way to enjoy oatmeal, Athol Brose is definitely worth trying.
