Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/3 c peeled garlic cloves (24 cloves, or 2 to 3 bulbs)
2/3 c chicken broth
1/2 c dry white wine
1/2 pkg (6 rolls) hawaiian sweet rolls or dinner rolls
1/2 c shredded fontina cheese (2 oz.)
olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. In a small heavy saucepan, combine garlic, broth, and wine. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Boil gently, uncovered, over medium heat about 25 minutes or until garlic is tender and 1/3 cup of the liquid remains. Set aside to cool.
  • 2. Place rolls (do not separate rolls) in a greased 8x8x2-inch baking pan. Cut an X about 1/2 inch deep into the top of each roll; spread each roll open slightly. Spoon garlic gloves and shredded cheese into the openings in rolls, pressing each down lightly. Drizzle broth mixture over rolls. Brush outsides of rolls with olive oil.
  • 3. Bake in a preheated 325º oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted. Serve warm.

Tips:

  • For a crispier crust, brush the rolls with melted butter before baking.
  • To make the rolls ahead of time, assemble and bake them as directed, then let them cool completely. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw the rolls overnight in the refrigerator, then warm them in a preheated 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through.
  • For a cheesy garlic spread, mix together 1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and 2 cloves minced garlic. Spread the mixture on the rolls before baking.
  • For a more garlicky flavor, add an extra clove or two of garlic to the butter mixture.
  • If you don't have any garlic powder on hand, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt instead.

Conclusion:

These cheesy garlic rolls are the perfect side dish for any meal. They're soft and fluffy on the inside, with a crispy crust and a cheesy, garlicky flavor that's sure to please everyone. Whether you're serving them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, these rolls are sure to be a hit.
