Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (2 lb) package frozen O'Brien potatoes
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups shredded marble-jack cheese
4 tablespoons butter
salt
pepper
garlic powder
paprika
2 -3 tablespoons olive oil to fry potatoes

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • In a large skillet, heat the oil and fry the potatoes until they brown lightly. Add seasonings to your taste (salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika) while they are cooking.
  • In a bowl, combine buttermilk and 1 cup of cheese.
  • Pour buttermilk mixture over the hash browns while in the skillet and stir together until mixed.
  • Spread potatoes in casserole and top with remaining cheese.
  • Cover and cook for 30-45 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality cheese: The type of cheese you use will greatly affect the flavor of your cheesy potato casserole. Use a cheese that melts well and has a strong flavor, such as cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan.
  • Don't overcook the potatoes: The potatoes should be cooked until they are just tender, but not mushy. Overcooked potatoes will make the casserole gluey.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Adding vegetables to your cheesy potato casserole will make it more nutritious and flavorful. Some good options include broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and corn.
  • Bake the casserole until it is golden brown: The casserole should be baked until the top is golden brown and bubbly. This will ensure that the cheese is melted and the casserole is cooked through.
  • Let the casserole rest before serving: Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the casserole to set.

Conclusion:

Cheesy potato casserole is a classic comfort food that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it cheesy, creamy, or loaded with vegetables, there is a cheesy potato casserole recipe out there for you.
