EASY CHEESY PRETZEL DIP

Easy Cheesy Pretzel Dip image

I was craving soft pretzels and cheese when I thought this one up. First I tried just melting some American cheese--that didn't work, but after a few trial and errors I came up with this easy cheese dip with simple household ingredients.

Provided by Molly 6

Categories     Cheese

Time 10m

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
7 slices American cheese
1 teaspoon mustard

Steps:

  • In a medium sauce pan over medium heat melt butter, then add cornstarch.
  • Slowly pour in the milk. Stir continually until milk thickens.
  • Once it has thickened add salt and American cheese. Continue stirring until cheese has melted.
  • Once cheese has melted add mustard to mixture.
  • Serve with soft or hard pretzels and enjoy.

Tips:

  • For the perfect pretzel flavor, use a combination of baking soda and lye. The lye gives the pretzels their characteristic brown color and crispy crust, while the baking soda helps them rise.
  • Make sure the water is hot enough before adding the lye. The lye will dissolve more easily in hot water.
  • Be careful not to overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the pretzels tough.
  • Let the pretzels rest for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help them develop their full flavor.
  • Bake the pretzels at a high temperature for a short amount of time. This will give them a crispy crust and a soft, chewy interior.
  • Serve the pretzels warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Cheesy pretzel dumplings are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. They are soft and chewy on the inside, with a crispy crust and a gooey cheese filling. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce for a truly satisfying meal.
