CHEF JOEY'S ORGANIC HEMP MILK

I have been making my own organic hemp milk for quite a long time. When you make your own it is stronger then what you buy in the grocery store, so be prepared to taste more of the hemp flavor. You will need a high powered blender for this to break the seeds down. I have a Vita-Mix and it works perfect. You will also need a seed bag to strain the milk from the seeds. I got mine online. Time 6m

Yield 8 cups, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup hemp seeds (organic)
7 cups pure water
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (or other flavor)
1 tablespoon honey (or other natural liquid sweetener)

Steps:

  • Fill the cup of a large blender with 7 cups of water.
  • Add the hemp seed, honey and vanilla.
  • Blend for a few minutes to ensure the seeds are all broken up.
  • Taste your milk. If its not sweet enough or flavored enough, add more sweetener or vanilla. You can also add almond extract as well.
  • If you are happy with the milk let it sit for a few minutes to let the water get into the seed puree. This step is important because it will help plump the seeds up and prevent them from leaking out into the milk while you're straining it.
  • Once the milk is strained put in the fridge.
  • Drink it up quickly this stuff won't keep too long.
  • Bon Appetit!

You could put a dollop of non-dairy whipping cream on top and sprinkle a little more cinnamon on that...Yummy!

Tips:

  • Soak Hemp Seeds: Soaking hemp seeds overnight or for at least 4 hours helps soften them, making them easier to blend and digest. It also enhances their nutritional value.
  • Use High-Quality Water: The quality of water used in making hemp milk significantly impacts its taste and texture. Use filtered or spring water for the best results.
  • Adjust Sweetener to Taste: The sweetness level of hemp milk can be customized according to personal preference. Add more maple syrup, honey, or other sweeteners as desired.
  • Use a Nut Milk Bag: A nut milk bag or cheesecloth is essential for straining the hemp milk. This helps remove any solids and results in a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Store Properly: Homemade hemp milk should be stored in a clean glass jar or container with a tight-fitting lid. Keep it refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.

Conclusion:

Crafting homemade hemp milk is a rewarding and nutritious endeavor. With its rich nutty flavor, creamy texture, and impressive nutritional profile, hemp milk serves as an excellent alternative to dairy milk. Whether enjoyed on its own, added to smoothies, or used in various culinary creations, hemp milk offers a versatile and delicious way to incorporate the benefits of hemp seeds into a balanced diet. Experimenting with different recipes and flavors allows you to personalize your hemp milk to suit your unique preferences.
