CHEF JOHN'S TOMATO SAUCE

Chef John's Tomato Sauce image

This is one of my most requested food wishes, my all-purpose basic tomato sauce. Whenever I make a meat sauce, this is my base. You can only stir this with a wooden spoon, otherwise it's bad luck.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will greatly impact the flavor of your sauce. Look for ripe, flavorful tomatoes that are free of blemishes.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting tomatoes intensifies their flavor and gives them a slightly smoky taste. This is a great way to add depth to your sauce.
  • Use a variety of herbs and spices: Don't be afraid to experiment with different herbs and spices to create a unique flavor profile for your sauce. Some classic Italian herbs that pair well with tomatoes include basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.
  • Simmer your sauce for a long time: The longer you simmer your sauce, the more time the flavors have to meld together and develop. Aim for at least 30 minutes, but you can simmer your sauce for up to several hours.
  • Taste your sauce as you go: Season your sauce to taste as you go. Start with a small amount of salt and pepper and add more to taste.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you can create a delicious homemade pizza sauce that will be sure to impress your friends and family. So next time you're making pizza, give one of these recipes a try. You won't be disappointed!
