This is an awesome dessert...reminds me of cherry-topped cheesecake, but MUCH easier to make:) Every time I take this dessert to a party, I ALWAYS get asked for the recipe (I just take a few copies with me/lol). I also like it with blueberry pie filling, but the fam. likes cherry, so that's usually what I use.

CHERRY CREAM CHEESE DANISH

Cherry Cream Cheese Danish image

I have baked the night before and then warmed in the oven to serve. It will microwave well to warm left over servings. You could also make 4 loaves if you wish to share as gifts. This is one of the goodies that I am always asked to bring.

Categories     Fruit Desserts

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 can(s) extra cherries -cherry pie filling (3 cans if you can't find the extra cherry
2-8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
2 Tbsp vanilla
1 c powdered sugar
4 can(s) 8 count crossiant rolls

Steps:

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 425*. Pour cherry pie filling into a colander and with a spatuala, gently spoon around to remove as much of the gel as possible. Set aside.
  • 2. Beat the softened cream cheese with the vanilla. Gently add the powdered sugar a bit at a time to make the mixture to the consistancy of a thick frosting. You may use a little less than the cup or a little more.
  • 3. Use a LARGE nonstick cookie sheet or foil-lined sheet as this will help to transfer to a serving platter. You can make one very long loaf but two are easier to transfer to serving platters. Separate the cans of the crossiants one at at time.Lay out two cans of the crossiants with the fat side to the middle, pinching the seams together. ^v^v^v^v. Then come back with the next two cans and cover the openings. Gently use your hands or a rolling pin to roll the center for about a 3" portion to make sure there are no openings on the bottom surface.
  • 4. In the center of the dough, spoon the cream cheese mixture. Spoon the drained cherries on top of the cream cheese.
  • 5. Pull the dough up over the mixture, cross-crossing as you go, pinching the seams and covering all the mixture. If there are a few openings near the top, it won't matter. Place in the oven on the center rack to bake. I start checking the loaves at about 30 minutes for doneness but it normally takes about 45 minutes. It will depend on the moisture in the air. When the Loaf is nicely browned, all the dough should be done.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start baking, gather all the ingredients and equipment you'll need. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling halfway through the recipe.
  • Use Cold Butter: Cold butter is essential for creating the flaky layers in the pastry. If the butter is too warm, it will melt and make the dough greasy.
  • Don't Overwork the Dough: Overworking the dough will make it tough. Mix the ingredients just until they come together.
  • Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before rolling it out helps to prevent it from shrinking in the oven.
  • Use a Sharp Knife: A sharp knife will help you cut clean, even slices of dough.
  • Egg Wash: Brush the pastries with egg wash before baking to give them a golden brown finish.
  • Don't Overbake: Overbaking the pastries will make them dry and crumbly. Bake them just until they are golden brown.

Conclusion:

Cherry cheese Danish is a delicious and versatile pastry that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dessert. It's easy to make, and with a few simple tips, you can create a flaky, flavorful pastry that will impress your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a special treat, give cherry cheese Danish a try. You won't be disappointed!
