1 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3 eggs
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons hot water
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup quartered maraschino cherries

Steps:

  • In a bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with water. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 (8 ounce) package chopped pitted dates
1 egg, beaten
3 cups crispy rice cereal
1 cup chopped coconut
½ cup chopped drained maraschino cherries
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups flaked coconut

Grandma Parsons gave this recipe to my Mom, and so there cookies have been in both families for several generations now. These cookies are moist and loaded with fruits,nuts and dates, a perfect Christmas combination.

3 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c butter, softened
2 c light brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk
1 c walnuts, chopped

2 c dates, chopped
