1 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3 eggs
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3 tablespoons hot water
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup quartered maraschino cherries

Steps:

  • In a bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. 1 (8 ounce) package chopped pitted dates
1 egg, beaten

2 ½ cups flaked coconut
