CHEWY APPLE OATMEAL COOKIES

Chewy Apple Oatmeal Cookies image

I had "inherited" bags and bags of apples and was trying to use them up and found this recipe in the August/September 2006 Taste of Home magazine that was chock full of other apple recipes. In the second batch, I added walnuts which were also a very nice addition. Even though the recipe calls for dried apples, don't let that make you hesitate in making these. I used chopped apples - 1 cup - and they were delicious! Also, be sure to flatten these a bit on the cookie sheet, they do not spread out while baking.

Tips:

  • Chilling the Dough: Before baking, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Using Fresh Apples: Opt for crisp and flavorful apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Fresh apples will provide the best texture and taste to the cookies.
  • Adding Spices: For extra flavor, consider adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger to the cookie dough. These spices complement the apples well and enhance the overall taste.
  • Baking the Cookies Properly: Bake the cookies until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set. Overbaking can make the cookies dry and crumbly, so keep a close eye on them during baking.
