MEAT-LOVERS' VEGETARIAN CHILI

Meat-Lovers' Vegetarian Chili image

This is a thick, hearty vegetarian chili that is a hit at parties even among die-hard meat eaters. The TVP gives it the texture of ground beef, and the chiles give it a nice depth of flavor. Cook it in the slow cooker or on the stovetop. This recipe really benefits from using the best quality ingredients you can find. Also, I find this tastes best after sitting in the fridge overnight and reheating the next day. Serve with grated cheese on top.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Flank steak, skirt steak, or chuck roast are all good options for chili. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in a liquid.
  • Brown the beef before adding it to the chili: Browning the beef adds flavor and helps to keep it from becoming tough.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Onions, peppers, carrots, celery, and tomatoes are all classic chili vegetables. But you can also add other vegetables, such as corn, zucchini, or squash.
  • Season the chili to taste: Chili is a versatile dish, so you can adjust the seasonings to your liking. Common chili seasonings include chili powder, cumin, garlic, and salt.
  • Let the chili simmer for a long time: The longer the chili simmers, the more flavorful it will be. Simmer the chili for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours.
  • Serve the chili with your favorite toppings: Common chili toppings include cheese, sour cream, onions, and avocado.

Conclusion:

Chili is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a cold day. It is also a versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give chili a try. You won't be disappointed!
