Categories     Nuts

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 banana, diced
2 Tbsp chopped walnuts
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp fresh nutmeg
tiny pinch of salt
12 wonton wrappers
frying oil (i use grapeseed, but canola is another good choice.)
warmed nutella for dipping

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the banana, nuts, spices and dash of salt. Place wonton wrappers out to make an assembly line. Get a pastry brush with a small dish of water ready. You may also sprinkle some cornstarch on a plate so the prepared wontons won't stick before they are fried.
  • 2. Place one tablespoon of the banana mixture on the center of each wonton. Don't be tempted to overfill, you will just create a frustrating mess.Use your pastry brush to place water on the sides of the wrappers. Fold them over into triangles and pinch to secure them.
  • 3. Place them onto the cornstarched plate until ready to fry. If not frying right away, cover with plastic wrap so wontons don't dry out. Pour about a 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet and heat until the oil is shimmering over a medium high flame.
  • 4. Place the wontons in the pan in batches. Turning when golden(about 1 1/2 minutes on each side). When done, place them on a cooling rack so excess oil can drip off. You can dust with powdered sugar just before serving. A favorite dipping sauce is warmed nutella.

Tips:

  • Choose the right wonton wrappers: Look for thin and pliable wrappers that won't tear easily. You can find them in the Asian section of most grocery stores.
  • Make sure the filling is well-seasoned: The filling is the heart of the wonton, so make sure it's packed with flavor. Use a variety of herbs, spices, and vegetables to create a filling that's both delicious and satisfying.
  • Fold the wontons correctly: The way you fold the wontons will determine how they cook. Make sure to fold them tightly so that the filling doesn't leak out.
  • Cook the wontons properly: Wontons can be boiled, steamed, or fried. The cooking method you choose will depend on your personal preference. If you're boiling or steaming the wontons, make sure to do it until they're cooked through. If you're frying them, make sure to cook them until they're golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve the wontons with a dipping sauce: A dipping sauce is a great way to add extra flavor to the wontons. You can use a variety of sauces, such as soy sauce, chili sauce, or vinegar.

Wontons are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. They're perfect for appetizers, main courses, or snacks.
