Categories     dessert

Time 1h45m

Yield 24 bars

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour (see Cook¿s Note)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon fine salt
One 12-ounce bag (a scant 2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Position the rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F.
  • Put the butter in a microwave-safe bowl, cover and microwave on medium power until melted. Alternatively melt the butter in a small saucepan. Brush some butter on the inside of a 9-by-13-inch pan and cool the remaining butter slightly. Whisk the remaining cooled butter, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Whisk the flour, baking soda and salt in another bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients with a spoon or spatula, taking care not to over mix. The batter should be thick and all of the flour mixture should be fully incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake until the edges are browned and the center is completely set, about 30 minutes. Cool completely, at least one hour, cut into 24 pieces and serve.

Tips for Achieving Perfect Chocolate Cookie Bars:

  • Prep Work: Before you start baking, ensure all your ingredients are measured accurately and at room temperature, especially the butter.
  • Mixing the Dough: Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing can result in tough and dry cookie bars.
  • Chilling the Dough: To prevent the cookie bars from spreading too much in the oven, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the bars hold their shape better.
  • Baking Temperature: Bake the cookie bars at the specified temperature in the recipe. Baking at a higher temperature may cause the bars to overcook and become dry.
  • Cooling: Allow the cookie bars to cool completely before cutting and serving. This will help them set properly and prevent them from falling apart.

Conclusion:

Chocolate cookie bars are a delightful and versatile treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With careful attention to the ingredients, mixing techniques, and baking process, you can create moist, chewy, and flavorful chocolate cookie bars that will impress your family and friends. Experiment with different toppings and add-ins to create unique variations that suit your taste preferences. Whether enjoyed as a sweet snack, a dessert, or a gift, chocolate cookie bars are sure to bring joy and satisfaction to any occasion.
