Time 1h20m

Yield 6 apples

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 medium sweet-tart apples, such as Braeburn, Fuji, or Gala
Popsicle sticks
1 pound semisweet chocolate, cut into chunks
1 cup M & M's, chopped pistachios, shredded coconut, toffee pieces, or crushed Oreos

Steps:

  • Twist off the stems from the apples and push a Popsicle stick down into the core. Put the apples in the fridge while preparing the chocolate; they'll coat better if they're cold.
  • Slowly melt the chocolate in a double boiler over hot water or in a microwave set on high for 2 minutes, stirring halfway through the heating time to smooth it out. Remove from the heat and stir until completely melted and warm, not hot. Dunk each apple into the chocolate, allowing the excess to drip back into the bowl. Roll the apples around in the chocolate, turning with the stick, so it's coated all the way up to the top. Use a spoon to baste any hard to get spots.
  • Put the desired coating in a separate bowl and roll the dipped apple around so it is completely covered. Set the chocolate dipped apples on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Refrigerate until the chocolate is set.

### **Chocolate Slice: Top Baking and Serving Recommendations** ### Baking: - **Use Good Quality Chocolate**: Select chocolate with a high cocoa content (70% or higher) for a rich and flavorful result. - **Precise Measurements**: Follow the recipe's measurements carefully, especially for ingredients like sugar, butter, and eggs, as they impact the final texture. - **Proper Mixing**: Ensure that the butter and sugar mixture is light and fluffy before adding the eggs. Do not over-mixin the batter to avoid a tough texture. - **Baking Pan and Parchment Paper**: Use a pan that is the right size for the recipe; otherwise, the slices may be too thick or thin. Line the pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal. - **Oven Accuracy**: Ensure that your convection ovens are accurate by using an external thermometer to calibrate. A slight temperature difference can affect the final result. - **Baking Time and Cooling**: Bake the slices until the center is just set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. Overbaking can result in a dry texture. Let the slices cool completely before slicing. ### Serving: - **Slicing Thickness**: For the best presentation, cut the slices with a warm, sharp serrated bread or cake to create clean and uniform slices. - **Presentation**: Arrange the slices on a serving platter or cake stand for an appealing display. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with melted chocolate, or add fresh berries for a delightful garnish. - **Room-Temperature or Chilled**: Chocolate slices are delicious served at room temperature, allowing the flavors to fully develop. Alternatively, you can chill the slices for a firmer texture and a more refreshing taste. - **Storage**: Store the slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, place them in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze them for several months. Thaw the slices at room temperature before serving. ### **Conclusion** Chocolate slices are a versatile dessert that can be enjoyed in many ways. By following the tips and recommendations provided, you can create delicious and visually appealing slices that will impress your friends and family. - **Final Notes:** - For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free oats or oat and almond meal. - Feel free to customize the recipe by adding your favorite spices, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, or a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors. - For a richer taste, consider using dark chocolate or a combination of milk and dark chocolate. - If you enjoy a gooey center, reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.
