Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (14 1/2-ounce) can pitted tart cherries
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, undrained
1 (3-ounce) package cherry gelatin
10 to 13 drops red food coloring, optional
3 medium firm bananas, sliced
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1 pastry shell (9-inches), baked
Whipped topping

Steps:

  • Drain cherries, reserving 2 tablespoons juice (discard remaining juice or save for another use). In a large saucepan, combine sugar and flour. Stir in the pineapple, cherries and reserved juice. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat. Add gelatin powder; stir until dissolved. Stir in food coloring if desired. Cool until partially set. Stir in bananas and pecans. Pour into the pie shell. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. Garnish with whipped topping.

Tips:

  • Use fresh or frozen cherries: Fresh cherries are ideal for cherry pie, but frozen cherries can also be used. If using frozen cherries, thaw them completely before using.
  • Pit the cherries before using: A cherry pitter can be used to quickly and easily pit cherries. If you don't have a cherry pitter, you can use a paring knife to remove the pits.
  • Use a thickener in your pie filling: This will help to prevent the pie filling from being too runny. Common thickeners include cornstarch, flour, and tapioca.
  • Don't overfill your pie crust: The pie filling will expand as it bakes, so it's important to not overfill the pie crust. Otherwise, the pie filling may overflow and make a mess.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This usually takes about 45-50 minutes.
  • Let the pie cool before serving: This will help the pie filling to set and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Cherry pie is a classic dessert that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With its sweet and tart flavor, cherry pie is a perfect treat for any occasion. Whether you're making it for a special occasion or just for a weeknight dessert, cherry pie is sure to be a hit.
