Stir in the cream and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Stir in the basil and remove from the heat.
  • Toss the sauce with the pasta to coat evenly and transfer to a pasta bowl for serving. Top with cheese and sprig of basil and serve immediately.

CHRISTY'S PENNE/ITALIAN SAUSAGE IN VODKA BLUSH

Christy's Penne/Italian Sausage in Vodka Blush image

I created this recipe for my daughter. She loves Blush sauce as opposed to a straight marinara or straight cream sauce. I serve this with a salad and ciabatta rolls. Enjoy!

VODKA BLUSH SAUCE
26 ounce(s) spaghetti sauce (your favorite)
8 ounce(s) cream cheese
1/2 cup(s) half & half
1 - shot of vodka
- salt & pepper (to taste)
MEAT MIXTURE
1 package(s) smoked sausage (i use eckrich)
1 tablespoon(s) real butter (salted)
1 tablespoon(s) minced garlic
1 teaspoon(s) kosher salt
PASTA
1 pound(s) penne rigate pasta
TOPPING(S)
- parmesan cheese
- finely shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Boil pasta according to package directions and drain.
  • Combine all sauce ingredients and simmer on medium heat - stirring often so cream cheese melts completely.
  • Slice smoked sausage into thick "quarterlike" slices and sautee in butter/garlic on medium heat until they start to brown slightly.
  • Combime pasta/blush sauce/smoked sausage together - stirring thoroughly -- the pasta will fill with the sauce.
  • After plating, sprinkle with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Look for fresh vegetables, flavorful Italian sausage, and a good quality vodka.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of pasta. Penne is a classic choice, but you could also use rigatoni, farfalle, or spaghetti.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the sausage. This will cause it to steam instead of brown.
  • Let the sauce simmer for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the pasta immediately, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.

Conclusion:

This easy and delicious penne with Italian sausage in vodka blush sauce is a surefire hit with the whole family. It's perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a special occasion dinner. With its creamy tomato sauce, tender sausage, and al dente pasta, this dish is sure to please even the most discerning palate.
