Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 1h30m

Yield 12 breadsticks

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 teaspoon active dry yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for sprinkling
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 clove garlic, minced
Chopped fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme and/or oregano), for sprinkling

Steps:

  • Put 3/4 cup warm water in a food processor. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes. Add the sugar and 1 teaspoon salt and pulse until dissolved. Add the flour, olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter and pulse until the dough forms a ball, about 1 minute. Continue to process with the motor running until smooth, about 2 more minutes.
  • Line 2 baking sheets with parchment; brush with olive oil. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a 12- to-16-inch rope. Arrange the ropes 1 1/2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets, rolling them to coat with the oil. Cover each baking sheet with a damp cloth and set aside in a warm place until the breadsticks double in size, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Put the remaining 3 tablespoons butter and the garlic in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave until melted, about 1 minute. Brush the breadsticks with the garlic butter; sprinkle with herbs and salt. Bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes.

PARMESAN AND GARLIC BREADSTICKS

Parmesan and Garlic Breadsticks image

These are really good and easy to prepare. They have a nice crisp crust and we loved the addition of the garlic salt on top. You can make these any size you want, from thin to larger. Just adjust the cook time. From TOH made my way. Cook time does not include the time it takes for the dough to rise. The amount of servings depends on how large you make the breadsticks.

Time 40m

Yield 3 dozen, 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 (1/4 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
1/2 cup warm milk (110-115 degrees)
2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons butter, divided and melted
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon instant minced garlic (McCormick)
3/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
4 1/2-5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt, for sprinkling on tops (to taste)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit until bubbly, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Add the milk, sugar, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, 3 tablespoons butter, salt, and 2 cups flour.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Stir in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  • Knead with bread hook for 7-8 minutes adding additional flour as needed.
  • Turn onto a floured surface and knead about 10-15 times.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  • Punch the dough down and let it rest a couple of minutes.
  • For thin bread sticks, divide into 36 pieces.
  • (This is very versatile here. You can make them as small or as large as you want. I cut mine into 18 pieces for a larger breadstick).
  • Shape each piece into a 6 inch rope.
  • Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25-35 minutes.
  • Melt remaining butter and brush over the dough.

  • Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from pans to wire racks.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better your breadsticks will taste. Try to use high-quality flour, butter, and garlic.
  • Proof the dough in a warm place: This will help the yeast to rise and make your breadsticks light and fluffy. You can proof the dough in a warm oven or on a heating pad.
  • Don't overwork the dough: Overworking the dough will make your breadsticks tough. Mix the ingredients just until they come together.
  • Bake the breadsticks until they are golden brown: This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Serve the breadsticks warm: Breadsticks are best served warm out of the oven. You can reheat them in the oven or microwave if necessary.

Conclusion:

These cinnamon or garlic breadsticks are a quick and easy snack or side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for parties, potlucks, or just a casual get-together. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create delicious breadsticks that will be a hit with everyone who tries them.
