SPICED APPLE CIDER

Spiced Apple Cider image

On a cool fall day, enjoy a mug of warm apple cider. Cinnamon stick stirrers add spice and extra flavor to our favorite seasonal beverage.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Drink Recipes

Yield Makes about 16 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

32 whole allspice berries
24 cinnamon sticks
24 cardamom pods
12 whole cloves
12 strips (2 inches wide) orange zest (from about 3 oranges)
1 gallon apple cider

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, and cook until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Cider can be kept warm over very low heat. Strain before serving, reserving cinnamon sticks for garnish if desired.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your cider a more complex flavor. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
  • Simmer the cider for at least 30 minutes. This will help to extract the flavors from the apples and spices.
  • Add a cinnamon stick or two to the cider. This is the classic spice for apple cider, but you can also use other spices, such as nutmeg, ginger, or cloves.
  • Sweeten the cider to taste. You can use sugar, honey, or maple syrup. If you're using sugar, add it slowly and taste the cider as you go so that you don't add too much.
  • Serve the cider hot or cold. Hot cider is perfect for a cold winter day, while cold cider is refreshing on a hot summer day.

Conclusion:

Cinnamon spiced cider is a delicious and refreshing drink that can be enjoyed all year round. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a warm and comforting drink, give cinnamon spiced cider a try!
