COLORED POPCORN
I've been making this for 30+years. My kids used to look forward to it, especially at holiday time. You can make this any color you want, but for some reason I always did pink (I think it reminded my kids of the packaged "lucky" popcorn). Now my daughter is carrying on the tradition and making it for my grandkids. Recipe comes from an old newspaper clipping. If you plan on storing this, use a zip lock bag or container with a tight fitting lid.

COLORFUL POPCORN BALLS
"These easy-to-make, fruit-flavored snacks are a big hit with our four young sons," relates Mary Kay Morris from Cokato, Minnesota. For extra fun, choose gelatin flavors that match your child's school colors. They're sure to become best-sellers, so it's fortunate this recipe can be doubled.

Steps:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the sugar evenly between 6 small bowls, 2 tablespoons per bowl.
- Dye each bowl of sugar a different color by adding 1-2 drops of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple food coloring. Stir each bowl with a clean fork until the sugars are sandy in texture. Note: We recommend gel food coloring, as the colors are more stable. Only use 1-2 drops; a little goes a long way.
- Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and 2 popcorn kernels to a medium nonstick saucepan with a lid. Cover and place over medium-high heat. Once the kernels pop, reduce the heat to medium and add 2 tablespoons of popcorn kernels and 1 bowl of colored sugar. Immediately cover the pan and shake to combine. Cook, shaking the pan constantly to ensure that the sugar doesn't burn, while the popcorn pops. Once the pops are more than 3 seconds apart, remove the pot from heat. Carefully remove the lid away from your body and pour the popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Evenly sprinkle ¼ teaspoon salt over the hot kettle corn. Let the popcorn cool completely, transfer to a bowl. Repeat with the remaining colors, replacing the parchment paper as needed.
- Combine all of the popcorn in a large bowl. Toss to distribute the colors evenly. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Enjoy!

Steps:
- Keep freshly-popped corn warm in large baking pan in 200°F oven.
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, butter, salt and cream of tartar in medium saucepan. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Cook to 250°F without stirring.
- Remove from heat. After boiling action ceases, add flavoring and color. Add soda and stir in quickly but thoroughly. Pour at once while foamy over warm popcorn; mix gently to coat corn. Shape into balls or spread onto cookie sheet and break into pieces when cool.
Tips:
- Use a large pot or Dutch oven to pop the popcorn. This will help ensure that the popcorn has enough space to pop and doesn't burn.
- Add the oil and popcorn kernels to the pot and heat over medium-high heat. Do not add any salt or butter at this stage, as this can prevent the popcorn from popping.
- Once the popcorn starts to pop, shake the pot back and forth constantly. This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning.
- When the popping slows down to a few seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
- Add the melted butter, salt, and any desired flavorings to the popcorn and toss to coat.
- Enjoy the popcorn immediately or store it in an airtight container for later.
Conclusion:
Making colored popcorn is a fun and easy way to add some color and fun to your next party or movie night. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a variety of different colored popcorn flavors that will delight your guests. So next time you're looking for a fun and festive snack, give colored popcorn a try!
