CORNBREAD

I love tasting different cornbread recipes, and I have to admit, I think this is the best that I've ever tasted. Usually I have to put tons of butter on it, because it's so dry and just doesn't have much taste to it, but this recipe is very moist, and you can eat it alone, it's got a great sweet taste to it. Try it...and let me know what you think. Thanks to Betty Crockers Big Red Cookbook for this great recipe.

Tips for Making Perfect Cornbread Batter:

  • Use Fresh Cornmeal: Fresh cornmeal will give your cornbread a more flavorful and authentic taste. If you don't have access to fresh cornmeal, you can use store-bought cornmeal, but be sure to check the expiration date.
  • Use Buttermilk: Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor to cornbread and helps to make it moist. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter will make your cornbread tough. Stir just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use a Hot Skillet: A hot skillet will help to create a crispy crust on your cornbread. Preheat your skillet over medium-high heat before adding the batter.
  • Cook the Cornbread Until Golden Brown: Cornbread is done cooking when it is golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
