Tips:

  • For the best mashed potatoes, use a russet potato. They are the best variety for mashing because they are high in starch and low in moisture.
  • Peel and cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Bring the potatoes to a boil in a large pot of salted water. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, sour cream, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mash the potatoes until they are smooth and creamy.
  • Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasonings as needed.
  • Serve the mashed potatoes immediately, or store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Mashed potatoes are a classic side dish that can be served with a variety of main courses. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like them creamy or chunky, with or without garlic, mashed potatoes are a delicious and versatile dish that everyone will enjoy.
