Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 can(s) pork and beans (any brand will do) drained
3 Tbsp butter
1 small valdalia onion chopped
1 Tbsp bacon grease
2 Tbsp white sugar
2-3 Tbsp ketchup (any brand) or sweet baby rays bar b que

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat add the 3 tbsp. of butter. Let it melt and add the chopped onion. Sautee the onion in the butter. The chopped onions should appear soft and clear. Add your sugar and mix well in the sauce pan.
  • 2. Add the drained cans of pork and beans to the butter, chopped onions, and sugar mixture. Stir well mixing all ingredients together over the medium heat. Add the ketchup next and stir well. Then at last add your bacon grease. I always save my bacon grease and use it in lots of dishes. So when I have it on hand it is good to use to flavor soup beans, green beans, baked beans, and corn bread.
  • 3. Turn the heat down on low and let simmer 5 to 10 minutes. (You can use bar b que instead of ketchup if you are having a bar b que dinner) Serve hot as a side. This is not a healthy side but we all do like to eat what tastes good and not what is good for you. Come on. Admit it. Once you try these you will not fix them no other way. Enjoy!
  • 4. Just double the recipe if you are cooking for a large group.

Tips:

  • Use dried cannellini beans for a more authentic flavor and texture.
  • Soak the beans overnight or for at least 8 hours before cooking. This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more digestible.
  • Rinse the beans thoroughly before cooking.
  • Use a slow cooker or Dutch oven to cook the beans. This will help to create a more even and flavorful cooking environment.
  • Add aromatics such as onion, garlic, celery, and carrots to the beans while they are cooking. This will help to enhance the flavor of the beans.
  • Season the beans with salt, pepper, and other spices to taste. You can also add a bit of sweetness with brown sugar or molasses.
  • Serve the beans with cornbread, mashed potatoes, or your favorite side dish.

Conclusion:

Country-style baked beans are a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a casual meal or a special occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a comforting and flavorful meal, give country-style baked beans a try.
