CROCK POT CRANBERRY APPLE BUTTER

Crock Pot Cranberry Apple Butter image

This is from the "Cranberry Festival Recipes" booklet I picked up at the cranberry festival in Bordentown NJ (where one of the Ocean Spray facilities is located) many years ago. It was submitted by a woman from Vincetown NJ and is one of my favorite apple butters. I usually use the cranapple juice.

CRANBERRY-APPLE BUTTER BARS

Cranberry-Apple Butter Bars image

I found this recipe in the Pillsbury Fall Baking Booklet that I found in the checkout aisle of the grocery store. The pictures in this booklet are absolutely amazing! One medium orange will provide enough grated pell and the 1/4 cup of juice called for in this recipe. Homemade or purchased apple butter will work in this recipe.

  • Pack into clean jars and refrigerate for up to 1 month.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful apples and cranberries. This will ensure that your apple butter has the best possible flavor.
  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your apple butter a more complex flavor. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples.
  • Don't peel the apples. The skins add flavor and color to the apple butter.
  • Core the apples before cooking. This will help to prevent the apple butter from becoming bitter.
  • Cook the apple butter over low heat. This will help to prevent it from burning.
  • Stir the apple butter frequently. This will help to prevent it from sticking to the pot.
  • Add spices to taste. Common spices used in apple butter include cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Can the apple butter. This will allow you to store it for up to a year.
