Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F.
- Soak the potato wedges in a bowl of water for 10 minutes. Drain the potatoes and then fully pat them dry with paper towels or a lint-free dish cloth.
- Layer a baking sheet with 2 tablespoons oil and generously sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Add the potatoes to the pan and drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and spread them evenly in a single layer on the pan. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until the bottoms are golden brown, about 10 minutes. Flip with a spatula and cook until the other side is golden brown, another 10 to 13 minutes.
- In a small saute pan, melt the butter with the garlic and let the garlic gently cook over medium-low heat until fragrant, 5 to 7 minutes.
- When the potatoes are cooked, toss them with the garlic butter and fresh herbs.
Tips:
- Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for crispy oven fries. They are low in starch and have a high solids content, which results in a crispy texture.
- Cut the potatoes evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly. Cut the potatoes into 1/2-inch thick wedges or strips.
- Soak the potatoes in cold water: This will help to remove excess starch, which can make the fries soggy. Soak the potatoes for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
- Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before frying the potatoes, make sure they are completely dry. This will help them to crisp up in the oven.
- Use a high heat: The higher the heat, the crispier the fries will be. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit before baking the fries.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When baking the fries, make sure they are spread out in a single layer on the baking sheet. This will allow them to cook evenly.
- Flip the fries halfway through cooking: This will help to ensure that they cook evenly on all sides.
- Season the fries: Season the fries with salt, pepper, and other desired seasonings before baking. You can also add herbs, spices, or grated cheese.
- Serve the fries immediately: Oven-fried potatoes are best when served hot and crispy. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce.
Conclusion:
Crispy oven fries are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By following these tips, you can make perfect crispy oven fries every time. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying snack or side dish, give oven-fried potatoes a try!
