CROCK POT KIELBASA GARBANZO STEW

Crock Pot Kielbasa Garbanzo Stew image

This is a very simple and great recipe that my family has been making for years and I don't see anything like it on this site. It's from a 1976 edition of a Better Homes and Gardens Crockery Cooker cookbook, listed as Sausage-Garbanzo bake. I usually double the recipe and serve with white rice. You can reduce the fat content by choosing low-fat or Turkey-kielbasa.

Time 8h15m

Yield 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 (15 ounce) cans garbanzo beans, drained
1 lb kielbasa, sliced (Polish sausage)
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup water
2 bay leaves
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In crock pot combine all ingredients.
  • Cover; cook on high-heat setting for 3 to 4 hours (or, as I prefer, low setting for 7 to 8 hours).
  • Remove bay leaves.
  • Serve.
  • Enjoy.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality kielbasa for the best flavor. Look for kielbasa that is made with fresh, high-quality meat and spices.
  • Soak the garbanzo beans overnight or for at least 8 hours before cooking. This will help to soften the beans and reduce the cooking time.
  • If you don't have time to soak the garbanzo beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them in water for 5 minutes, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your stew. This will add flavor and nutrients to the dish.
  • Season the stew to taste with salt, pepper, and other spices.
  • Serve the stew with a side of bread or rice.

Conclusion:

Crock-Pot kielbasa and garbanzo bean stew is a hearty, flavorful, and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover kielbasa. With a few simple ingredients and a slow cooker, you can have a delicious and satisfying stew that the whole family will enjoy. The stew is also a good source of protein, fiber, and vitamins.
