3 cups dry navy beans, soaked overnight or boiled for one hour
1 ½ cups ketchup
1 ½ cups water
¼ cup molasses
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon salt
6 slices thick cut bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Drain soaking liquid from beans, and place them in a Slow Cooker.

2 cups dried yellow-eye beans
1/4 cup chopped white or yellow onion
2 Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 Tablespoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
3/8 about 3/8 cup molasses
1/2 about 1/2 cup hot water

Steps:

  • Soak the beans overnight. Drain, rinse, and add water to cover. Bring to a boil, and then simmer until husks curl when you blow on them. Drain and rinse with hot water. Pour half of the beans into the crock-pot. Sprinkle with half of the chopped onion, and dot with half of the butter. In a measuring cup, combine the brown sugar, salt, and spices. Add molasses to the 1/2 cup mark. Add hot water to the 1 cup mark. Stir mixture to combine, and then pour over the beans in the crock-pot. Add the rest of the beans, and cook for 7-8 hours. Remove the lid and cook another hour.
